Conducting the Launching Ceremony and Awareness Seminar of Energy Efficiency Pilot Project in Food Processing Sector

The launching ceremony and the awareness seminar of the energy efficiency pilot project in the food processing sector were conducted on Feb 22nd and 23rd at the Thinga Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, and the 80 participants from relevant ministries and organizations as well as the delegates from the food industries attended those meetings.

That project is a two-year initiative that will be carried out by the energy efficiency and conservation department under the supervision of the Directorate of Industrial Collaboration, Ministry of Industry. This project is mainly to promote productivity, which is cost-effective and energy efficient in industries.

In the opening ceremony, Dr. Charlie Than, Union Minister of the Ministry of Industry, talked about the project's advantages and the reason for its being carried out. The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Minister Counsellor, stated that the activities that will be implemented in the project, as well as the nations in the Mekong region, will be developed simultaneously by manufacturing energy-efficient and environmentally friendly production. The representative from the Mekong-lancang cooperation coordination unit (Myanmar) further mentioned that the Mekong-lancang projects have produced successful outcomes and benefits over the past eight years.

Furthermore, the Director General from the Directorate of Industrial Collaboration under the Ministry of Industry presented about Myanmar’s energy efficiency policy; the director from the energy efficiency and conservation department said that about the project. The representative from the Ministry of Science and Technology mentioned the use of renewable energy in the food processing sector, and the representative from the Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Suspection mentioned the promotion of SMEs in the food processing sector. The representatives from the Myanmar Food Processors and Exporters Association and the Federation of Myanmar Engineering Society discussed energy management and cooperation in the food processing sector, as well as business partners from the food industry. Attendees asked questions, and the experts answered. Those meetings were held for two days.
