Ministry of industry has been participating energy efficiency activities in the ASEAN region since 2000. Intending to implement effectively those EE&C activities in Myanmar, Energy Efficiency and Conservation Division was established on 1st April 2014 under Directorate of Industry, Ministry of Industry according to the union government office of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar’s announcement (3/2014). At that time, there were 10 officers and 10 staffs out of 25 full positions. According to the Union Government Office’s meeting no (7/2015) on 25th March 2015, in the reforming of the ministry, Directorate of Industry was renamed as the Directorate of Industrial Collaboration and Energy Efficiency and Conservation Division was reorganized the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Department as well.

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Department is undertaking an energy efficiency focal point of Myanmar. Energy efficiency services such as doing energy audit in industry, commercial building and public building, implementing standard and labeling program for home appliances and machineries and the energy efficiency activities including transportation sector and conducting the EE training program are being carried out.
